This video introduces Taiwan’s activities held to mark this year’s World Cotton Day, including a fieldtrip to an organic cotton farm and a workshop on indigo dyeing on Sept. 26 and 28, respectively

DAY 1

Participants went to Green Grace Organic Cotton Farm in Middle Part of Taiwan County. It is one of the few cotton fields in Taiwan, and the only one to receive organic certification. The farm utilizes enhanced biological pest control and employs advanced planting technology to improve cotton varieties. The visit provided the opportunity to experience a taste of Taiwan’s cotton-growing past and at the same time see firsthand innovative methods used to produce a green, voguish and healthy product.

DAY 2

The workshop on Sept. 28 was held at the Indigo Dyeing House in Miaoli County. Indigo dyeing and Taiwanese floral fabrics have long been symbols of Hakka culture and have also become emblems of Taiwan. The workshop gave the participants a better understanding of a unique facet of local culture as well as provided them with an interesting and educational opportunity to try their hand at making their own indigo dyeing creations.
