Sudan will celebrate World Cotton Day 2026 with a special event at the Gezira Scheme on October 7, organized through a broad coalition of cotton-sector organizations and stakeholders.
The initiative is being led by the Union of Cotton Producers and Exporters and the Chamber of Agriculture, with participation from the Cotton Organization for Development and Training, the University of Gezira, the Agricultural Research Corporation, agricultural professional organizations, irrigated and rain-fed cotton farmers, companies involved in cotton production and manufacturing, and other stakeholders from across Sudan’s cotton sector.
Held under the patronage of the Governor of the Gezira Scheme, the program will combine a field day with technical and policy discussions focused on strengthening cotton production and the wider value chain.
The field session will feature presentations on cotton production technologies, recommended technical practices, and pest management, with the participation of cotton farmers from across Sudan.
A second session will examine several key issues facing the sector, including:
- Cottonseed: the current situation, challenges, and possible solutions
- Financing and contract farming
- Ginning, spinning, and cotton manufacturing
- Cotton marketing
The event will conclude with decisions and recommendations aimed at supporting the future development of cotton in Sudan.
